This time, I'm going to focus on ‘online content’. Because it’s something that you can’t get away from and you will hear a lot about, from me and from other entrepreneurs you come across.
Content in the online business world is any informational or educational material you create and publish online. This can be in the form of words, images, videos and audio.
CONTENT CREATION
Your aim when creating any kind of content is to:
- Educate and entertain your audience of ideal clients, so they come back for more
- Establish yourself as a thought leader and highlight your expertise.
- Generate awareness of your brand and make you more visible to potential clients.
- Drive people to your website and improve where you rank on search engines like Google.
- Build trust and foster long-term relationships with your audience.
Basically, I mean anything that will help them begin to know like and trust you, so they can decide if they want to work with you, learn from you or buy from you.
CONTENT MARKETING
So if ‘content’ is the words, images, videos and audio you create. Content marketing is the strategic approach to how you create and use your content to get the most value from it through different content channels. The key focus is on providing information, entertainment, or education to your audience rather than directly promoting a product or service.
So you are not ‘selling’ with this type of content. This is an important distinction. When you are writing to persuade people to buy from you it’s called copy-writing, which I’m going to talk about in another episode.
CONTENT CHANNELS
Content channels are the ways you can get your content out in front of your audience.
They include blogs, podcast platforms, online magazines for articles, e-books and guides, video hosting platforms, email newsletters and social media platforms.
The thing to remember when developing your content marketing strategy is you can choose multiple channels based on your target audience's preferences, content type, brand, personal preferences and the goals you aim to achieve. But it's essential to tailor your content to each channel's unique characteristics and make sure you’re consistent in your branding, messaging, and quality across all your chosen content channels.
CONTENT REPURPOSING
This is all about taking existing content and giving it a fresh twist. It means taking something you've already created and repackaging it in different ways to reach more people. Instead of just using content once, you find new ways to use it again and again.
The idea is to make the most of the content you have by giving it new life in different formats and on different platforms. By doing this, you can reach a wider audience, improve your visibility, and keep your message fresh. It's a smart way to get more mileage out of the content you create and engage with people in different ways.
THE BOTTOM LINE IS…
Content is anything you write, images you create and any video or audio you record and share to provide value or solve problems for your audience or potential clients.
It’s not something you can ignore as regularly creating, updating and maintaining high-quality content is crucial for building a strong online presence and attracting and retaining customers in the longer term.
Even if you have a brick-and-mortar business, you can’t afford to ignore the online world to attract and engage customers.
I hope you now have a better understanding of content in terms of the digital business world and you can start thinking about what content you will start to create.
