I've talked about the importance of good habits for years, both in my corporate job where I trained thousands of people and in my work with clients over the past few years. It was by developing productive and healthy habits that I believe played a big part in being able to navigate out of my career.
Productive Habits are the third pillar of the Career to Entrepreneur method.
WHY ARE HABITS IMPORTANT?
When you have good habits in place, it makes things so much easier for you, because when a lot of tasks are on autopilot, it allows you to focus your mind elsewhere.
Habits are nature's way of making things easier for you, so the more you can utilise them the better. It does take some time to get positive habits in place, usually about 60 days. But once they are, you barely have to think about them.
WHAT HABITS SHOULD YOU DEVELOP?
First of all, productivity habits. So these are things like having a regular time to work on your business so you automatically want to work at that time..
Also, working in the same place so you don't need to think about where.
Using the same productivity techniques (like the Pomodoro technique) so they become your go-to methods without even thinking of them
Then we have healthy habits. To start your business and to juggle everything you need to have energy and you need to be able to focus.
For that, you need to be well-rested, so getting the right amount of sleep for you is vital.
To keep your mind healthy and to lower stress, getting into the habit of practising mindfulness or some kind of meditation is beneficial. It's also fantastic for creativity.
Regular exercise, we all know why we need to exercise, but also it's a way to unwind and to de-stress.
Drinking water, healthy eating, you know, all those habits that you know are good for you are important to master.
Look after yourself, look after your body. You are the golden goose. You are the one that is creating this business. So you need to protect your physical and mental health. Even if it means that you need to take a bit longer to create your business, get those positive habits in place.
THE BOTTOM LINE IS…
By creating habits, you're doing yourself a favour, they can allow you to work more productively and also can give you more energy and positivity. If you can create some good habits before you start creating your business and then keep them going throughout your business startup project, you'll be making it far easier for yourself to reach your goals.
