When was the last time you thought about what you REALLY want in life?
What would make your life fulfilled, happy and successful?
Time is passing so fast! I can't believe it is already September! With everything moving a such a speed, you can get caught up in the hamster wheel of life and never stop to check you are going in the right direction.
How can you truly be the boss of your life if you are not in charge of where it’s headed?!
In this episode, I’m talking about the vital importance of creating your success vision.
Unlike traditional goal setting, a success vision is a vivid, mental image of the future—an all-encompassing picture of what life could look like if everything goes according to plan. It’s more than just career achievements; it's the full spectrum of what matters most in your life, from relationships to personal health, financial success, and emotional well-being.
Defining Your Unique Vision
Success looks different for everyone. We all have our own definitions, and that’s OK. Your success vision is personal to you and reflects your deepest desires—not what society or external influences dictate.
We’re often conditioned by societal rules. The belief that success is tied only to money, status, or staying in one career for life has slowly started to shift. Still, the remnants of these outdated ideas remain, subtly influencing our aspirations. The challenge is to let go of what you’re "supposed" to want and embrace what you genuinely desire, even if it goes against the grain.
Are You Climbing the Right Ladder?
Stephen Covey, famously said, "If the ladder is not leaning against the right wall, every step we take just gets us to the wrong place faster." This is a powerful reminder that clarity of vision is essential. Without it, you might reach the top of the wrong ladder, only to realize your true goals are elsewhere. The key is to ensure the ladder you’re climbing is leading to the life you want, not what someone else thinks you should have.
A Simple Method for Creating Your Vision
My favourite way to create a success vision is, a visualisation exercise from Pat Flynn’s book Will It Fly? In this exercise, you imagine meeting an old friend in an airport five years from now, and they ask how your life is going. You respond enthusiastically, “Things are amazing!” The next step is to unpack what that means to you. What would need to happen in your work, relationships, health, and lifestyle to make you feel that way? By dividing your life into four sections—what you’re doing, what you have, who you’re with, and how you feel—you can start crafting a detailed picture of your future. Listen to the episode to get more detail on this!
Let Go of Limiting Beliefs
Too often, we create visions based on what we think is realistic, which only limits our potential. Use your imagination to see what’s possible, even if it feels out of reach right now. Your current circumstances or financial situation should not dictate your future vision.
My Top Tips for Success Visioning
- Choose a time when you’re in a positive mood. Your mindset can greatly influence your vision, so make sure you’re in a good place mentally before diving in.
- Be honest with yourself. Don’t be afraid to admit to desires you’ve buried or ignored.
- Push the boundaries. Think beyond what’s currently possible, but avoid slipping into fantasy.
To make this process easier, I have a free guided visualisation meditation called “The Magic Door,” which helps you immerse yourself in your future vision and bring clarity to what you really want. You can download it here
The Bottom Line is:
To lead your life like a boss, you need to know what you're aiming for. Taking the time to craft a success vision that truly reflects your desires ensures that the path you’re on leads to a life that feels fulfilling, no matter what anyone else says.
