Here’s the short version. To listen to the full episode, click on the play button above!

A key way you can start to get the thing you’re passionate about noticed, so you can build a business around it or freelance in it,  is to talk about it. You need to be heard on a far bigger stage, where you can potentially connect with millions of people worldwide. People that could be clients of yours in the future.

Now as you move deeper into the entrepreneurial and freelance world you will hear a lot of talk about CONTENT.  Content is the king of the digital world. It's what fuels the internet and keeps us coming back time after time for more.

But what is your content in relation to you?  Think of it as the words, images and videos that tell your story and represent your business or personal brand.

In order to be heard, you first need a channel, a content channel. That's simply the platform you use to share your content regularly with the world. A place you can attract people to so they can see, hear or read about what you have to say.

Ok, so let’s get into what the main content channels are so you can decide which one will suit you best

THE PODCAST

Think of it as your own personal talk show where you get to chat about anything and everything related to your passion and business.

With a podcast, you can be the star of the show with solo episodes or stay more on the sidelines and interview other people. Or a mix of both.

Podcasts can be listened to anywhere, at any time, so you can connect with your audience even when they're on the go.

With a podcast, you are demonstrating your knowledge and passion in your industry, and you'll establish yourself as a thought leader and boost your credibility.

For me the best thing is, you don’t need t worry about what you look like! You can have messy hair, be wearing an old fleece and joggers with no make-up and still no one will know! Podcasting is great if you love talking and enjoy sharing your knowledge or a variety of topics related to your biz.

If you’re a budding podcaster, I go into far more detail in these two episodes:

THE BLOG

A blog is a part of your website where you can publish articles, stories and your views on a regular basis. Think of it as your own personal magazine where you get to share your thoughts and insights on your industry.

The big thing about blogs is that they improve something called search engine optimization (SEO). Basically, it means by regularly publishing high-quality, keyword-rich content, you'll help search engines like Google find your website and drive more people to it. Like all the content channel options, blogging gives you the opportunity to showcase your expertise and establish your brand as a thought leader in your industry.

Also, by commenting and interacting with your readers, you can build a community of engaged followers and increase your visibility and credibility.

Blogging is a fantastic option if you love to write and share their insights with people. If you're a wordsmith and have a passion for your industry, then get typing!

The 3rd main content channel option is…

THE YOUTUBE CHANNEL

You can treat it like your own TV show where you can showcase your products and services, share industry news and information, or just have some fun and entertain your audience.

The main benefit of YouTube is that with over 2 billion monthly active users it has a huge reach. YouTube is one of the largest and most widely-used video platforms in the world, so by creating and uploading videos, you have the opportunity to establish your brand and showcase your products and services to a lot of people.

Video content also allows you to connect with your audience on an emotional level, making it easier to build relationships and increase engagement and trust with them.

YouTubing is better if you are more extroverted and are happy to be seen on screen. Although a lot of introverts do very well there.  It does take a bit more effort in terms of filing and editing your videos, but video is seen as the best way to connect with people, so if you like the idea of it and are happy to put in the work, it does bring its rewards.

Just one final thing, before you start to panic and think “OMG how can I possibly manage to write or record stuff every week”!  Listen up. It’s not about slowing you down or holding you up. There are no rules about how often you decide to put out content on your Podcast, YouTube channel or blog. I’ll say that again…there are no rules…there will be no content police watching ready to pounce if you decide to post once a year!  Start slow and then build up to whatever amount seems right for you.  Just try to keep it consistent so your audience knows when to expect to next hear from you.

THE BOTTOM LINE IS…

starting a content channel like a podcast, blog, or YouTube channel is a game-changer for any aspiring entrepreneur or business owner, or freelancer.

Not only does it help you build brand awareness, strengthen your self-confidence and showcase your expertise, but it also gives you the opportunity to be creative, have fun, and stand out in your industry.

So, what are you waiting for? there's no better time to start your own content channel and show the world what you've got. Don't be afraid to get creative, have fun, and let your personality shine.
