At the end of last year, I made another big decision in my life, which was all at the same time exciting, exhilarating and I have to be honest, a little bit scary!
In this episode, I pull back the curtain and let you see what I've been up to and what my plans are for the near future. So why am I sharing this with you? Yes, it’s nice to give you a little bit of an idea of my life and, and what I'm doing. But I'm telling you about my crazy plans for a reason. Making one big decision in life can cause a cascade of other changes.
It's the domino effect. You know, when you see these people who create these beautiful artworks all set out in dominoes and they usually just have one tile that then pushes forward to make all the dominoes fall in different directions to reveal this piece of art. That's what it’s like when you make a big decision in your life, that's what happens. I'm not saying this to scare you to say loads of things will change. It will change for the positive because making a decision for your benefit, that's going to take you on the right path that you should have been on all the time.
OPEN DOORS FOR YOURSELF
It really opens new doors for you. Things will come up that you hadn't even imagined that you would do. You'll get offers and opportunities and meet people and connect with other paths that you just won't be able to see until you have made the decision and moved forward. Even if you could think of, or try to think of it right now, you wouldn't be able to see what could potentially happen.
My decision to leave corporate was huge for me. It took a long time. It took years for me to actually take action and make the move. I started working towards it 18 months to two years before I actually left. It took a long time and it was hard, to make that decision, to take those actions and close that door.
However, it did open the door to lots of other chances for me. And as you can see, from my example, it doesn't always have to happen immediately. It's not like you make one decision and then suddenly all the others cascade completely at that moment. Not quite like the dominoes in that way! But you will find that other opportunities do become open to you.
Sometimes you might not see them for a while like me. I didn't see the opportunities straight away, but you won’t if you go in one direction all your life, never taking a chance. It can be hard to break away and take the roads less travelled. But once you do you find that choices and decisions are far easier.
TRUST YOURSELF
Making this decision, was far easier for me because I've made a big decision before and it was the right thing to do. So I'm much more attuned to my instinct and I trust myself much more.
I don't listen to the voices around me as much as I used to because those voices usually are speaking in fear or they're just protecting you. So you have to listen to your gut more and trust in yourself. You're in charge and in control and you can decide on the next steps and after one decision, you become more open to change in general.
I like to describe it as a door that's not been opened in a while. Maybe it's been sealed shut for a long period of time, locked and no one's gone through it. It's just been left and then someone decides to go through it and they turn the key and that creaks, and it's hard to turn the door handle is hard to push down and it's hard to actually make it connect.
Then you pull the door towards you and it creaks, and it might be some dust and it generally doesn't want to move. But then after that, the opening and closing of that door becomes freer and far easier to open on a daily basis. When you make a decision, when you make a big choice, it comes far easier to make choices from then on.
THE BOTTOM LINE IS…
The first big decision is the hardest, but it's also the most rewarding and exciting and exhilarating. So if you are not moving forward with making a decision in relation to your life, then make it now. I promise you all the decisions you make after that will be a piece of cake in comparison once you're on the right path and working towards your passionate, purposeful, and prosperous future business.
